Harajuku

Harajuku is a cool, hip area with a lot of department stores and trendy boutiques. It's primarily known for it's wild fashion and street performers. Plus there are a lot of great restaurants. I really liked the fact that most of the shops and boutiques are located in a warren-like maze of alleys that spanned a couple of city blocks. But unlike what you normally think about an area like this that might have a flea market-esque bazaar feeling, these boutiques are very high-end and stocked with all the latest trends. Pretty much if there is a style out in the world, there is a shop which supplies those fashions. And of course most people mix and match their fashion around here which is why the local look is so unique and random. Out on the main streets there is usually at least one full band set up with other performers scattered about. The band in red, "Loovee", was pretty wild; they had a rockabilly sound and the two women dancers were doing sock-hop type moves. The notorious Harajuku Girls, fashionistas that inspired Gwen Stephani's look, are ever present. Mostly they're just standing around waiting for tourists to take their pictures. I liked this area mainly for the fascinating people watching opportunity.
